How to Remove Diaper Cream From Carpet

Diaper cream, or zinc oxide, is a necessity when you are caring for a newborn. However, when this creamy goo gets out of the tube and onto your carpet, it can leave a nasty looking stain. If not caught early, this can be a permanent problem with very few solutions. However, if you are quick and catch the cream when its still wet, you can save the carpet.
    • Wipe up any excess diaper cream immediately after you spot the spill. Every second less the cream spends on the carpet, the better your chances will be to remove it. Take a damp paper towel and wipe up as much as possible. Do not wipe hard or the cream may become ground into the carpet more.

Spread baking powder across the stain generously and let it sit for a few minutes. The powder will be able to soak up a lot of oils from the carpet. These same oils are the ones that leave stains, so this is an important step.

Vacuum up all the baking powder from the carpet. Once the oils and cream soak into the powder, they will clump. So, the best way to successfully remove the clumps is to vacuum. This will also clean up the extra powder that didn’t have a chance to soak up any cream.

Take a wet paper towel with an all-purpose cleaner or dish soap soaked into the fibers and rub the spot where the cream was on the carpet. This will help to remove any other oils that were not fully removed by the baking powder.

Use a toothbrush and some soap to scrub any stubborn spots that remain looking stained. This should force out all the remaining diaper cream.
